Swiss Re Munich

X-TEND & I-SYS green and airy

GREAT COLOR WITH GREAT FACADE

The plan to green the facade of Swiss Re’s Munich headquarters was definitely well thought out. With this, the globally highly successful reinsurer from the land of the Swiss has added ecological shading to its glass and metal facade. In addition, the listed company offers many Munich-based insects an urban and protected green habitat.

The architectural office Bothe Richter Teherani used the high-quality properties of the X-TEND stainless steel cable network and the I-SYS stainless steel cable system not only to create an anchor point for numerous plants. The stainless steel mesh was stretched to a total of 6,800 m² and thus also received high-quality fall protection. The X-TEND from CARL STAHL ARCHITEKTUR was used with a mesh size of 200 millimeters.

WILD WINE AND WISTERIA

Both the wild wine and the wisteria not only create excellent natural shade when the leaves are full, they also create a kind of microclimate. Underneath it is pleasantly cool in summer. Arranged like a floating screen, the shape of the green X-TEND plays with the two-storey building complex. The greenery can even be found in the interior, in the spacious atrium.

The secure anchoring in the ground creates the visual impression that the plants used for greening would grow out of the earth like trees. Due to the large park and lawn area in the foreground of the building, a corresponding symbiosis of horizontal and vertical is created by means of the green facade.
